The Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) has issued the decree that officially recognizes the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) as being of particular scientific relevance on the international level. This marks a crucial milestone for the professional framework of UPS graduates, especially regarding registration in the professional registers established by Law No. 55 of April 15, 2024.
Law No. 55 introduced essential provisions for regulating pedagogical and educational professions, establishing the professional registers for pedagogists and socio-pedagogical professional educators. However, to enable UPS graduates to access these registers, a specific ministerial provision was necessary to certify the international scientific relevance of the University.
The effort, led by the commission appointed by the Rector Magnificus, Prof. Don Andrea Bozzolo, and composed of the Rector himself, Don Jaroslaw Rochowiak, and Dr. Francesco Langella (who also represented the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences "Auxilium"), began last May, and the request for such recognition was formally submitted to the MUR in June 2024. Following the necessary evaluation process, on March 13, 2025, the Minister of Universities and Research, Hon. Anna Maria Bernini, signed the decree, which has now been published in the Official Gazette (No. 79).
The Baccalaureate and Licentiate degrees awarded by UPS, mentioned in Article 9 of Law No. 55, are now officially valid for registration in the professional registers.
This recognition significantly impacts all graduates and students of the Pontifical Salesian University, ensuring their full legitimacy in exercising educational and pedagogical professions at both national and international levels. Furthermore, it further strengthens the University's prestige within the global academic landscape.
The procedures for registration in the professional registers will proceed as established by law and subsequent provisions.
The issuance of the ministerial decree marks a highly significant achievement for UPS and the field of educational sciences, reaffirming the value of Salesian education in the international context.
