The "new visions" of the Religion Today Film Festival

On November 18, 2024, the seminar inspired by this year's Religion Today Film Festival aimed to reflect on how cinema is evolving together with society and religions

Following the 27th "Religion Today Film Festival" (September 18-25, 2024), an initiative dedicated to promoting and enriching a culture of peace and interreligious dialogue, the seminar is organized by the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS).

The goal of the seminar is to reflect, based on the suggestions offered by the edition's title, "New Visions", through the discussion of experts from the academic and religious fields involved.

Among the speakers: Ambrogio Bongiovanni, professor and director of the Center for Interreligious Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, addressing the theme from the perspective of interreligious dialogue; Andrea Bozzolo, Rector of the Pontifical Salesian University, who will speak from a theological-ecclesial perspective in line with the Church's Synod; Marco Guglielmi, researcher and professor at the University of Padua, whose contribution is sociological; Giovanni Vannini, professor of Digital Trend and Social Media at Iusve in Venice-Mestre, who will analyze the topic from a techno-scientific and AI perspective; and finally, Renato Butera, professor at the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences of UPS, focusing on the cinematic aspect.

The seminar will also feature Lisa Martelli and Andrea Morghen, respectively president and artistic director of the Religion Today Film Festival. The seminar opens with greetings from the dean of the FSC, Prof. Fabio Pasqualetti.

The seminar is scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024, at 8:45 AM, in Room CS1 of the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome. It concludes with the screening of the film GIRL No. 60427 by Shulamit Lifshitz and Oriel Berkovits, which received the New Visions award given by a jury of FSC students.
