Missionary pastoral course

The Pontifical Salesian University, through the Faculty of Theology, organizes an annual course lasting one month, held from October to November.

Objectives

  • Revitalize the missionary dimension of one's vocation.
  • Reflect on some theological-pastoral themes related to the Church's mission.
  • Promote the sharing of missionary experiences.

Course structure

The course has a unified character among theological-pastoral intellectual training, spiritual and missionary experiences, in a climate of communion and fraternity. The course offers the richness of its internationality, allowing the sharing of an experience of the universality of the evangelizing mission.

  • It has a total duration of 5 weeks in Rome.
  • Academic activities (October 6 - November 7, 2025) are from Monday to Friday, from 8:45 AM to 12:10 PM.
  • Some activities are organized in the afternoon and on weekend and will be communicated promptly.
  • The course language this year is italian.

Target audience

The course is aimed at missionaries from religious institutes, diocesan or lay, who already have some experience of missionary life. The proposal is also offered to those who wish to deepen their pastoral experience from a missionary perspective.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Themes and topics

The course consists of didactic activities (lessons) and formative moments (such as cultural and spiritual excursions, sharing moments, participation in an audience with the Holy Father, and others). The didactic proposal is not an integral part of the UPS academic curricula, does not foresee evaluation tests, and does not have ECTS recognition. The lessons offer a contemporary reading of human existence: its social, cultural, religious, and anthropological reality. This reading is illuminated by the Word of God, the missionary ecclesial Magisterium of the Church, and theological-pastoral reflections that respond to today's challenges. Consequently, the course offers an ecclesial missionary pastoral proposal in concrete intercultural and interreligious perspectives for a renewed christian proclamation.
