International Youth Observatory

It is a permanent Centre of the Faculty of Educational Sciences that intends to offer its recipients a scientific, university-level study and cultural information on the Italian and international condition of young people in various European and non-European countries.

It promotes a worldwide culture of observation-sensitisation-intervention in the field of the education of minors and young people, spreading the values of the Don Bosco educational system. Its activities are coordinated in harmony with the educational-pastoral purposes of the Salesian Departments of Youth Ministry, Missions and Social Communications of the Salesian Congregation, with official recognition by the Rector Major of the Salesians and his General Council.

Vision

The International Youth Observatory promotes a worldwide culture of observation-sensitisation-intervention in the field of the education of minors and young people, spreading the values of the Don Bosco educational system. OIG activities are coordinated in harmony with the educational-pastoral purposes of the Salesian Departments of Youth Ministry, Missions and Social Communications of the Salesian Congregation, with official recognition by the Rector Major of the Salesians and his General Council.

Mission

The International Youth Observatory is an international centre of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome with the following aims:

  • the scientific knowledge of youth reality: in its modifications, in its relations with the external social context and the quality of life of young people;
  • the evaluation of the efficacy of youth policies, i.e. the adequacy of the responses offered by the various services to the needs of young people;
  • the realisation of research and training on the Italian and international youth condition in various European and non-European countries.

For its purposes it activates and maintains relations with bodies and institutions that have the same mission.
